It was a busy August for the Senior members… 4th August – we entered Henley Town and Visitors Regatta. A one day event over 800m on the famous Royal Henley Regatta course. Strong competition for all and a well deserved win from the Intermediate 2 coxed four, Mike Alexander, Dai Briley, Dan Briley, Maurice Blount, cox Mary Yee.
9th/10th August – Jack Thomas and Zak Lee-Green were invited to race for Wales at the Commonwealth International Regatta in Strathclyde, Scotland. Later, Zak was offered the opportunity to train and compete for the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam and had to step down, leaving Jack to take Zak’s place in the Men’s lightweight single scull and came 3rd in the first heat, and 2nd in the Repêchage.
16th/17th August – Oxford City Royal Regatta. Only a small group of seniors were able to attend this year. A good win came to Dan Briley and Maurice Blount in their novice double sculls.
24th August – Gloucester Regatta saw a win for the Mixed Intermediate 1 coxed four, Maurice Blount, John McTeague, Ellie Taylor, Bethan Roberts, cox Laura Clements and the Mixed Intermediate 2 coxed eight, Sam Hudson, Maurice Blount, John McTeague, Huw Lewis, Ellie Taylor, Bethan Roberts, Holly Powell, Suzie Eirth, cox Mary Yee.
25th August – Ross Regatta, a wet soggy day – all day, gave us three more wins from the Mixed Intermediate 2 coxed four Maurice Blount, John McTeague, Ellie Taylor, Bethan Roberts, cox Meghan Smith, the Mixed Intermediate 2 coxed eight, Joe Lewis, Maurice Blount, Andy Pratt, Richard Clarke, Ellie Taylor, Bethan Roberts, Steph Mais, Suzie Eirth, cox Meghan Smith and the Women Intermediate 3 coxed four, Sandra Franklin, Laura Clements, Bethan Davies, Claire Masters, cox Mary Yee.
