Sunday 16 October saw the annual Autumn Scratch Fours. Its been a few years since we last held an Autumn Fours, and the weather was on our side. A warm glorious day, the sun shone upon us, whilst members raced together and side by side with new novice members. Members who joined after entering the Splash and Dash last month.
10 crews in total, the morning was full of racing, waiting and cheering, over the 500m sprint in beginner tubbie boats.
Megan Leitch and Richard Summers kindly offered to umpire the start, whilst Roy Nicholls rang the bell at the finish.
All crews throughly enjoyed the racing, with smiles galore, and the two finalist were:- Suzie Erith, Steven Cox, James McClenaghan, Samatha Livings, cox Mary Yee and Matthew Latham, Catherine Honeysett, Jon Williams, Matthew Thomas, cox Sonia Hine. The overall winners went to Suzie’s crew.
After the morning’s racing we had the traditional club photo, which included our new novice squad, followed by a delicious Sunday lunch cooked by the members of the Society of Watermen.
We are talking already of running a Spring Scratch Fours, which will include our new January Taster Day members of 2017, and hopefully with novices more experienced by then, we’ll be able to run the event in fine boats.
