Learn to Row

Llandaff Rowing Club’s Learn to Row courses introduce non-rowers to the sport in a friendly and encouraging environment.

The Adult Learn to Row course runs throughout the year, once we have 16 applicants per course. Participants will learn basic rowing technique, the importance of manoeuvring a boat and develop their confidence in a single scull. They will also have the opportunity to sit in a coxed four training boat known as a ‘tubbie’ boat, where ‘sweep oar’ rowing is taught.

Individuals taking part in the Learn to Row course are encouraged to immerse themselves in Club life, joining in Club land training sessions during the week and socialising with members in the Club bar.

As a non-rower, you cannot join Llandaff Rowing Club as a full member until you have completed the Learn to Row course. Courses are held generally one afternoon at the weekend and one evening weekdays. The courses run over 9 hours of coaching.

For more information and to find out when the next course will take place, please contact the Club Captain.

If there is not a course available or the course is full, we also run the annual ‘Splash and Dash’ Regatta in the autumn. A four weeks crash course learning the very basic with a fun regatta held at the end. For further information, check the ‘Splash and Dash Regatta’ page found under ‘Regatta’.

We also run regular Junior Learn to Row courses throughout the year. Junior Learn to Row courses tend to run during the school holidays over a number of days. For further information, please contact the Club Captain who will pass you onto a Junior coach.
